Either LA is smaller than I ever imagined, or I just happen to know a lot of elderly people in LA.
On a recent episode of comedienne Kathy Griffin's Bravo network show, "Life on the "D" List," Kathy organizes a talent show for her mother's senior citizen community in Hollywood. If you haven't watched the show, it's hilarious. It follows Kathy's life as a comedienne and her tireless attempt to achieve "A" list status.
During this episode, Kathy auditions the talent from her mother's senior citizen community. Wouldn't you know... I knew 3 of the guys auditioning!!!
#1) JOE: This man is well into his 80's. He's singing, "America the Beautiful." I know Joe from a local karaoke bar I used to go to a lot called, Boardwalk 11. He sings there a lot and one evening I spoke with him. He is a former opera singer and after his wife passed away, started going to local karaoke bars to sing and pass the time. He always sings Sinatra songs and gets a standing ovation from everyone.
#2) MAGICIAN w/ THE CAT: I met this guy at the Aqua Lounge in Beverly Hills. He performs magic tricks to the patrons in the bar area. Strange, I know!
#3) CONSTANTINE His name wasn't acknowledged during the show, but he is also a singer and attends my church.
It appears I am the only one who is astonished to find I know 3 of the senior citizens on a reality tv show. My friends don't seem at all surprised. That kind of scares me! :D Here is a clip of the audition process from the show:
