I had a very stressful day today. Well, let's be honest here... a very stressful week. I've been trying to get my new band off the ground which is requiring a lot of attention in a small amount of time. Whoever said, "Hey, starting a band is easy," clearly has no idea what they are talking about. Let me re-phrase that.... If you want to create a successful band, then they REALLY don't know what they are talking about. My fellow band-mates and I have been working for over a year on getting the right people involved, creating a solid demo, band photos, creating a marketable image, website, song lists, press kits...the list goes on and on. The goal of this band is simple: Establish strong relationships with agents and club owners and only Play TOP NOTCH venues.
After a lot of ground work, we are finally ready to launch our band and start playing around. In a short amount of time, we have landed a spot at a nationally recognized theme park, interest from casinos in Vegas, a city festival booked as well as a private party at the end of the month. For being a new band, it's pretty cool to land such great opportunities.
I credit a lot of our current success to having strong messaging and a marketable image. Part of the way we do that is through social media (a.k.a. our website, facebook, etc.) Today, I was trying to reach out to a potential venue and their facebook page said, "For bookings, you must be a member of 'reverb nation.' " I thought for a moment, "You mean, I have to create another social media account?" Panic quickly ensued. "When will I have the time to create and manage yet another social media account???"
Can we just take a moment to count how many social media accounts I already have:
-Personal music website
-Band website
-Personal facebook account
-Personal music facebook account
-Band facebook account
-Twitter account (which I barely use, but have to have one if I am an artist)
-LinkedIn account
-Personal music myspace account
-Personal music reverb nation account
-Personal blog (this one)
-NEW: Band reverb nation account
How many is that?????
11!
Seriously??? I think I'm gonna crawl in a little hole and pretend the words "social media" never existed!
Holy buckets! Talk about plugging into the social pipeline! hee hee! I don't even know the first thing about Twitter. I'd say though, if you're managing all those sites/pages -- - THAT'S PRETTY AMAZING AND IMPRESSIVE! It'll pay off!!!!!!!!
