BEST INVENTION EVER

How many times have you purchased frozen vegetables from your local grocer, thrown them in the freezer and then never eaten them because the thought of unthawing/steaming takes too doggone long?  Umm...that would be me.  Being a single gal makes it quite difficult at times to prepare an accurate amount of food without:

A) Preparing too much
B) Having to throw away the left-overs because they won't taste good the next day?

I used to have a vegetable steamer, and it worked quite well.  However, by the time I took it out of its box, set it up and steamed the veggies, I now had a 3-piece device I had to clean in addition to whatever dishes I dirtied preparing my meal.  The steamer took too long and was too high maintenance to keep clean.  Thus, I gave it to Goodwill.

On my journey to find the next best alternative, I found the microwaveable vegetable packages in the frozen food aisle.  "What a delight" I thought.  All I have to do is stick them in the microwave and VOILA! However, like I mentioned above, I rarely could eat an entire bag of vegetables in one sitting.  If I tried to save the left-overs, they would only get mushy upon re-heating.  The other negative about this option is that the microwaveable vegetable packages are expensive and not nearly as affordable as the non-microwaveable bags.

This brings up another issue I have.  What to do with my existing bags of frozen vegetables that were not microwaveable?  Yes Mom, I suppose I could heat water on a stove and use a metal strainer to steam them, however, call me lazy...but, that is too much work.  If I'm not eating fresh veggies, I'd like to use the easiest way to prepare my frozen, non-microwaveable vegetables...

What's a girl to do?

Well, I just found the most amazing invention EVER!
How come no-one ever told me about these?  I am happy to report that I have been able to consume all of my frozen vegetables in a systematic way without having to put too much work into it or having to waste half the contents in a bag.

The best part about this solution is the fact that I can buy the more wallet friendly bags of frozen vegetables and ration my servings as needed.

THANK YOU ZIPLOC!

  1. HA! We get the microwaveable bags of veggies all the time :) However we don't see veggies like that! Potatoes, broccoli, pappers, squash? We see things like green beans, cauliflower, corn and carrots. I WANT CALIFORNIA FROZEN VEGGIES!
