In my recent effort to start taking advantage of my surroundings in 2011, I have unwittingly become more conscious of the little things happening around me. I find pleasure in watching others in their most fragile and perhaps intimate of moments. When I look around me, I often think about how every person I see has an agenda for the day. Some are more detailed than others, but we all have things we need to accomplish on a daily basis or appointments to keep. Take for instance these guys below...
Today, I was driving past a park on my way home from having lunch with a close friend. Standing in a mid-size circle was a group of guys holding those large signs that often are used to entice drivers to stop in and purchase food at a restaurant. In LA, you see these guys everywhere promoting Subway, T-Mobile or other various stores. The guys holding them often do fancy stunts with the signs like throw them up in the air or twirl them in circles. The group of guys in the park were in a training session learning how to use the signs. I thought to myself, "I bet they had to get up extra early this morning so they could arrive at this park in time to prepare for their sign twirling training." Sign twirling is someones profession.
Another example, came just a few hundred feet away at the corner of Tujunga and Magnolia. A group of 15-20 little girls around the age of 6-7 were all dressed up in private school uniforms holding hands as they walked across the street together. I am not sure where they were coming from or going to, but a few of them had Brownie sashes on over their uniform. I thought, "Do those little girls have a Brownie meeting after school? What is on their agenda for the day? They must be so proud to wear their sash." I know I was at their age.
Lastly, as I was pulling into the parking ramp of my apartment today, I glanced over at an adjacent apartment balcony where a mother was standing with what looked to be her two little girls. They each were maybe 4 or 5 years old respectively. The mother had just put out a pink cart table, fit for two little girls and placed two tea cups on the table. They both looked at their mother so innocently. Oh, how I would have loved to have watched those adorable little girls sit and drink their tea. What a beautiful moment this mother was creating for her daughters.
Hmm...I gotta get me one of them signs. Perhaps I could start the training here in MN! I wonder if it's a 'chain' thing? And yes, the Brownie girls are out to get everyone with their EVIL GIRL SCOUT COOKIES! (I plan on posting about them today.) That tea cup totally screemed "Molly" when I saw it! I swear you and my grandma would have a HAY DAY together! (she's the one that was trying to set you up with my cousin. ha!)
ReplyDeleteI LOVE the story about the little girls and their tea cups. That is so sweet. I see those sign guys everywhere too. I often wonder how much business they actually pull in for the company they represent.
