A night to remember...

Last night I attended a special songwriters showcase at Kulak's Woodshed in North Hollywood. It is an adorable little nook just north of the NoHo Arts District.

Paul Kulak owns this treasure trove establishment where singer / songwriters from all over Southern California can perform and get their music heard both locally as well as through his live web casts.
In addition to showcasing up and coming talent, Kulak's Woodshed also features hit songwriters who donate their time by putting on various showcases.

Last evening was one of those nights. Kulaks invited established songwriters Steve Dorff and Bobby Tomberlin to perform.  Steve is best known for writing mega hits for George Strait, Celine Dion, Barbara Streisand, and many others. He even wrote the "Growing Pains" theme song... my personal favorite.  Bobby has also written a bunch of hit songs for artists such as Josh Turner, Faith Hill and Kenny Rogers. He is best known for co-writing the #1 hit song for Diamond Rio, "One More Day."

I was fortunate to have been a guest performer of Bobby's and was invited to sing his song, "I Want You," recorded by Faith Hill.  I was honored to share the stage with such prolific songwriters.  I was humbled and grateful for the opportunity.

What moved me the most was how many of my friends came to support me.  I think I counted 9 friends who showed up, and I couldn't have been more proud.  It means so much to have people in your life who support what you do.

Thank you everyone who came and I hope you left inspired like I did by the remarkable songs these two men have written.

This year, I am working hard at counting my blessings and giving thanks for all the unique and memorable opportunities I am presented with.  This was one of them.

  1. Ha! It looks like you girls had fun and made the most of a sticky situation. I almost ran into the same dilemma the other day. I was so relieved when I made it and pulled into the gas station.
